Bowman Naturally, being of its time, the prose seems stylistically dated, but the book was well-done when done, and taken on its own terms stands well the test of time for a mystery-thriller. The anti-hero thief turned lawful adventurer-spy works and is a precursor to The Saint and others who later followed similar trails. Sometimes it takes a thief, doesn't it?
