0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Lighten up and read this review. By James Shell I've read many blogs about moving to, living in, and teach in Cambodia. A lot of people currently living there are extremely negative and discourage others from doing so, which makes me wonder why they are even there. But Braeton takes a different approach. In this e-book as well as his YouTube videos, he talks about his real life experiences and encourages others to have enough faith in them self to try something new. Obviously this isn't meant for everyone. In fact it isn't even meant for most people. I'd suggest that it is meant for people who don't take life too seriously, can appreciate humor and who want to experience something different in life. Ok, yes there are some grammatical errors in the book. But I'm not going to criticize that because this is a very casual forum from one man to people interest in his experiences. As for Braeton as a person, he tends to be very realistic. He doesn't sugar coat things nor does he discourage. He states his real life experience so others have an idea of what to expect. Please take note, HIS experiences. Your experience may not be identical. For the low price, this book is entertaining as well as informative. You can get all of the same information by watching his YouTube videos, however this book puts all that information in one spot. If you want to contact him, he will always be honest and realistic in answering you. So if you are tired of all the negative people telling you why you can't do something, give this book a read because it describes how someone actually did it. Also it's recent which to me is relevant because so many others talk about how they did it 10 years ago or how they've been there since the 90's. I'd rather hear from someone who did it recently as our experiences are more likely to be similar.

The author gives you the nuts and bolts of how to quit your job, move to Cambodia, and make a living - as he has done. The in your face style may offend some, but I found it energizing.

The author was good, but his writing was inconsistent and either hits the mark perfectly (such as with many of his "Little Willie" poems) or flops painfully in others.I'd still recommend this title since the price is more than reasonable and it has some wonderful little dark ditties that still make me chuckle from time to time.Not that this last remark is all that important, but the material is a little dated. Most people might not understand the punchlines since they were written almost a century ago in the colloquial English of that time. The one that springs to mind right away is a Little Willie poem that uses the words quicksilver and mercury interchangeably for the punchline. I have yet to have mentioned the word "quicksilver" to anyone under 60+ years old who knew what it actually was. If you know what it is right away, you'll really get a good chuckle.

No messy laws to bother with. I plowed into this book and finished with a smile. Love these types of books. Free is good !

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Intriguing Classic Mystery By kindlefan Kennedy (PI) and Jameson (newspaper reporter) are Reeve's Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson. In this book they help Carton,the District Attorney, unravel a tangled web of corruption and criminal activity in their fair city. Carton is running for elections and is trying to clean up the corruption that has ruled the city, especially a few major criminals that have bonded together to keep things lucrative for themselves. One of them is running in the election. These 3 guys along with a woman PI find out the truth and slowly uncover and convict the criminals one by one.You have to remember this was written in early 1900s without all our sophisticated listening devices and other tools that make searching for criminals less difficult. In comes Kennedy with his lab where he tests things, figures out photos are fake, compares voice vibrations and puts together some devices for listening in other rooms or taking pictures in ingenious ways. It sounds more advanced than I thought it would be.Some things were surprisingly up-to-date--especially the spa and beauty place with plastic surgery. Also--it brings to light the problem of drug use and corruption among the police and courts. Well written. I didn't want to put it down.

This is still true today.This is a must read book if you love a mystery or investigation and want to find out how it was solved back in the day without internet, and the things we use today--the old fashioned way!

Blue Bonnet is a girl many could fantasize being. The story flows well and is as enjoyable as the current sci-fi books. I read this book by the original publisher many times when I was growing up and enjoyed it and the whole series then. I still enjoy it [and in the interim I became an English teacher]. It is a good book for a teenager to read.

As in his previous the grammar and spelling leave much to be desired and those who enjoyed the first book will like this one. This book is somewhat different as it deals with a well - known topic, Vespasian's suppression of the Jewish revolt, and his subsequent rise to emperor. Once again there is great detail involving such events as gladiator contests, triumphs and sieges. Despite the detail, which is for the most part informative even for those who have previously read Roman history the story keeps moving maintaining one's interest. I enjoyed the book even though I have read other authors' accounts of the subject and for those who haven't read much about Vespasian it is a must read.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Classic literature, yes...an easy read, definitely not. By Crochetgal if you're looking for a fast, easy read, this book is definitely not it. If you're looking for classic literature, you've found it. This is a very dark book, taking place on the Russian front during WWI. Two Englishman are serving with a Russian medical unit, and the book follows their relationships with their russian companions and each other. It is very slow moving and at times rather hard to slog through. Hugh Walpole has written other books that are a lot more interesting and flow more easily than this one does. Definitely not my favorite of his books.

Everything evil in the last 110 years was planned by these cockroaches of humanity. This book was written 120 years ago but reads like a history book of everything that has happened since then. By Tomo Sugnetic This book is completely on Continental (or European) Portuguese.At times, dialogs between Brazilians are presented but words and sentence structure is Continental, something Brazilian speakers would never say or use. Don't get me wrong. This book is okay if your aim is to learn Continental Portuguese (10 millions of speakers). If you are interested in Brazilian Portuguese this book will be no use and might teach you wrong.

By Cedric Rocha Leao Being Brazilian, I can tell that there are indeed several differences between Brazilian and European Portuguese, but the main difficulty are the local expressions that differ a lot and the pronunciation/accent. It is harder to understand the European accent than the Brazilian one. Grammarwise, the main and maybe only significant difference is the use of the Gerund in Brazil for continuous actions, forsaken long ago in Portugal. However, both countries do speak the same language and one can be understood in either one regardless what "Portuguese" he or she learned. By the same authors, there is the "Colloquial Portuguese from Brazil", which has enough grammar discussions and real life dialogues based on "Brazilian Portuguese", despite using over formal and unnatural structures, sometimes. A comment on the first review made about this book: What is "Continental Portuguese"? Is Brazil an Island? Or is Europe the only "Continent" with capital C so that the Portuguese spoken in Portugal can be labelled "Continental"?

Short Concise Travel Book By Super Customer College Nomad: A Student's Universal Guide to Budget Travel around the GlobeThis is a great book that packs a lot of information in a short space. Having traveled around the world a lot, I have some experience in the matter. I completely agree with the author on the 23 tips for budget travel. And I have also visited some of the places that he mentions in Chapter 2. There are some that I have not been to, and will make sure to include it on my list.

By Joanna Daneman Many of Verne's novels have become cultural icons for Americans though Verne was French and we read him in translation. Nevertheless, his philosophy that enlightened good will and scientific advancement would save society is so close to American idealism, he seems much more American than almost any of his contemporaries.Everyone is familiar with Around the World in 80 Days and 20,000 Leagues. For some reason, The Mysterious Island is not read as widely. Yet, in my opinion, it is Verne's best and most rewarding novel.The opening of Myserious Island reads a bit like a serious version of "Wizard of Oz." Cyrus, Pencroft, Herbert, Neb and Gideon, and a dog named Top make a daring escape from a Civil War prison in a balloon, but the balloon is blown way off course to an uncharted volcanic island. These men are worthy souls; Captain Cyrus is an inspiring leader, Pencroft, an earthy but hardworking sailor. Gideon is kind of a "everyman" -- observant, strong and resourceful and loving, and Herbert a young, knowlegeable naturalist. These men and their dog Top conquer the island's challenges and make the very best out of their isolation on the small island. But are they prepared for the surprises the island has for them--and the ultimate surprise in the second half of the book. The suspense keeps the reader turning the pages through a great deal of descriptive information about nature, chemistry, physics and engineering. This is classic Verne and what really put the Science in Science Fiction.One reason Mysterious Island may not have developed the strong audience of the other Verne novels is that there is so much detail and scientific discussion. That is rough going if you have little interest in such subjects. There are abridged versions that cut a lot of the description, but frankly, the science is what I love best about the book. How Cyrus and company make nitroglycerin and use it to reshape their island home is one of my favorite chapters in sci-fi literature.If you liked Swiss Family Robinson as a child, you would surely enjoy Mysterious Island. It's one of Verne's best works and deserves to be read.

Cross I have not had a chance to talk about any of the books that I have read recently, but I decided that today I would. Recently upon getting my Kindle 2 I downloaded for free a copy of Jules Verne's The Mysterious Island. One of the great things about owning a Kindle is that the second you own it you can download many classics for free and you already have a well stocked library full of classic novels that triumph over some of today's commercial attempts.I really recommend reading this book. It starts off slowly, and there were times in the middle of the book that I began to get overwhelmed by the complex descriptions that Verne offers about how this band of Civil War escapees manage their life on a strange island. Verne goes into such depth that the reader can actually tell that Verne probably spent many hours in his own contemplation about what he would do if he were stranded on an island. And let me be the first to say that if I were stranded on an island I would want Jules Verne right beside me. His knowledge of the subject went further than you would expect it to and considering that the book was written in the 1870's. The type of information that was possessed by the characters given by Verne surpasses what most people would know today. It wasn't too far after being stranded that the band of men were making pottery, iron and planning to make guns. At one point they even knew to take small whale bones and hunt with them. These are things that are lost in today's world of luxury.I think the beauty of the story lies in its ability to transport you to this other place and time. As I read the book I felt as if I was back in the 1800's trying to survive and thinking as I read, "what would I do?" It is an excellent book that could be read by young and old alike.

So I am searching out classics to read on the Kindle that cost $0. Came across Mysterious Island and I have been captivated by it. Very good read. Intelligent with adventure. After reading the book, I wondered about any movies made about this book. I saw one listed on Netflix that had giant sea monsters fighting the island inhabitants. The movie also had women on the island with the men. I guess whomever tried to sell the idea of the book to Hollywood was afraid of just presenting the book as is. No sea monsters and no women. I think the movie version would be "a little" like Castaway.To sum up. The book is free and easy to read, and enjoyable. Thanks for your time.
