The Shore-to-Shore (STS) is 232.1 miles long and is an ideal path for someone who is looking to do a longer hike but doesn't have a lot of time. A Walk Across Michigan: Hiking the Michigan Shore-to-Shore Riding and Hiking Trail (A Where's Will Series Book?), by Will Swartz About the Author Will Swartz lives in Canton, MI with his wife, Kate, in a riverside Cape Cod house, where River Deer and other wildlife regularly stop by to distract him as he writes. They have five children (none of whom is a wild child burden on society or living in their basement) and four grandchildren. Will has worked as a teacher, coach, librarian, school administrator, trainer, and salesman. He is a pathological storyteller and makes stuff up all the time. Will is currently the Creative Projects Director for Will Swartz Enterprises, LLC. He made up the title so he would no longer be retired and could have a job that described what he loves doing. His main duties are thinking up cool stuff to do next, keeping the wastebaskets on all three floors of the estate empty, and guarding his antique porcelain door knob collection. 5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. One Fun Hike By Mark Holtman This book is a fun read. Walk 20 feet and you find yourself in the middle of a story that will pass the time in a hurry. And along the way I learned several interesting things about Michigan's history. This was a very entertaining hike.

My dad wears many hats and each come out in turn through the journey from shore to shore. Father, husband, brother, hiker, fisher, joker, educator, storyteller and librarian to mention a few. The last one makes the book take on a flavor not found in other books on hiking as he delves in to the most entertaining bits of history. "Willy Swartzenchoppin" had some exploits that you will find hard to believe!The MI Shore-to-Shore is a very accessible trail for the amateur hiker looking for a challenge. Perhaps you're considering a bigger hike like the PCT or AT? Consider this trip as a longer-term shakedown to see if you're really ready to commit. This book will give you the information you need to prep for it. Be warned, this charmed hiker had near-flawless Michigan weather (75 and sunny) that you can't plan for! But whatever the weather, bring a pail for blueberries...

This tale, told by a top rated story teller, is full of funnys and charms. Not a single yawn moment to be found. Who knew you could have so much fun hiking a trail vicariously?Take a journey with Will and you will definitely learn something and smile while you do it.
