Okay story, lousy melodramatic ending By Tired of cutesy comments ebook downloaded free from Gutenberg.When Hazel Thorne's father dies and the family is left penniless, Hazel horrifies her mother by qualifying as a schoolmistress and takes the family to live in the small town where she is hired. But Hazel earns the women's enmity by being attractive to their men, and her family members get themselves into situations where she must rescue them.Hazel is too sweet to be real and too wussy to earn my sympathy - she should have told her phony mother and whiny brother off at the beginning of the book. And the way Fenn ladles one trouble after another onto her plate reminded me of an old melodrama. In spite of these flaws, it kept me reading, but the completely unsatisfactory ending knocked another star off my rating.
