Young Rose is like many a heroine in books written at this time. She's young, beautiful, kind-hearted and well-liked by everyone. Stephen is your typical hero: strong, smart, hard-working and respected by his community.Rose and Stephen are engaged to be married, but there's always that little voice at the back of her mind asking, does she really want to settle down in this dull, backwoods place with this backwoods man? What would it be like to live in the metropolis of Boston?Enter city slicker Claude who causes Rose to question her plans even more. Believing she wants her freedom to be with Claude, Stephen calls off their engagement. Heartbroken and confused, Rose has a chance to finally visit the fabled Boston. Of course you know that she's going to realize that the Big City wasn't everything Rose thought it would be and her eyes are opened to just how great a man Stephen is.Will he ever forgive her? Will Stephen take her back? Oh, you know he will.

Charming and sweet old fashioned story By Sarah I've loved the writing of Kate Douglas Wiggins since I read Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm when I was a child. This story starts off a little slow, there were more descriptions of logging than I cared to read, but as the action picked up a bit, I became very interested in the fate of all the characters. The ending was very sweet. A great, short read!
