I read the Gutenberg Project copy provided on my e-reader. Sugar Plum is the name of the planet the small family purchases in order to flee Boston's corruption of New Victorian sensibilities. These space-age Victorians live in austere circumstances with plastic furniture and a robot servant who provides the cooked meals and does all the cleaning. They pride themselves on their self control. Nothing should ever be done that is improper...then they arrive on Sugar Plum. Not only is Sugar Plum already inhabited, but the family is stranded with no hope for rescue from the original owner, a space pirate! These people find themselves facing a new reality very quickly on Sugar Plum, for it is an uninhibited planet! This is a look at the insincerity of some societies and living your true values, sensibly. The fall of the New Victorian morals can be seen as the downfall of virtue in today's society OR as living as one truly should, without pretense and judgement of others. I did enjoy this story and it gave me room for thought on the values that are so prevalent today.
