This book is the true story and first-hand account of an Australian woman riding from Austin to Boston in the United States of America with Sustainable Cycles in the summer of 2015. The riders are all women, with no support vehicle, carrying their gear on their bicycles and camping along the way. Written as a journal, the story follows the adventure from pre-trip planning to conclusion. Rosie begins her tour in Austin, Texas. Having never met her fellow riders, she is in for a series of challenges, surprises, and a mixture of hair-raising and heart-warming experiences as she rides across the United States. Along the way, they give workshops on reusable menstrual products, and smash through taboos, stigma and shame. Their goal is presenting at the Society for Menstrual Cycle Research Conference in Boston, Massachusetts. The kindness of strangers keeps them going, and as the kilometres stack up, the riders get closer to Boston, to each other, and ultimately, what it means to be human.

I especially appreciated Sheba's willingness to show her vulnerabilities and honest, candid reflections on the adventure . Her account makes very clear the heart and the grit it takes to do the crucial work of challenging the menstrual status quo! Sheba's narrative shows that passion CAN be channelled into concrete efforts to spread awareness and make sustainable change.
