About the Author Monte Bona, director of the Mormon Pioneer National Heritage Area, is a retired businessman completing his twentieth year as a city council member in Mt. Pleasant, Utah. A graduate of Brigham Young University and the University of Michigan, he taught political science at BYU and UVU. Mr. Bona has received a Utah Heritage Foundation award, Utah Division of State History Outstanding Contribution Award and the Regional Recognition Award from Utah's Six County Association of Governments.

Monte Bona along with the talents of educators, regional historians and creative storytellers have given us an authentic view of those brave men, women and children who left family, wealth, and country to establish the communities in south central Utah.Their legacy is one that can be described as a system which was based on time honored traditions, honest values that everyone embraced for the sole purpose of existence in an untamed environment. These stories will be come to life as you read of their resourcefulness, collaboration, diligence, and pure fortitude; persons with total conviction to overcome any and all challenges. Also within its pages there are stories that can only be described as miracles.The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, or Mormons are well known for the settling of Utah, what you might be surprised to learn is that there were Jewish settlements as well as contributions of a Presbyterian Minister. It will not come as a surprise that miracles did occur, day to day life was not easy. It took great sacrifice, humility, and a traditional set of morals.Without a doubt this is a book that you will read, reread, share, retell the stories, legends, lore and true tales to everyone. I recommend this book to anyone, it is one that I will be giving as gifts to my family members and friends. Mr. Bona has vividly brought the past to life in this interesting and moving book.
