The text is sharp and easily readable. Many of the illustrations are a bit dark and/or blurry as is to be expected from the copy process.This volume consists of excerpts from the journals of Archibald Menzies covering his three visits to the Sandwich Islands in 1792-94 as Vancouver's surgeon and naturalist. It has 6 pages of index and 199 pages of text.Menzies spent more time ashore than most of the other crew. His observations of the land and people of Hawaii are those of a scholar rather than a naval officer and contain many insights not found in Vancouver's Voyages including many more Hawaiian names.If you're reading about Hawaiian history or Vancouver's voyages, this is a wonderful companion book.
