About the Author Frederick Augustus Washington Bailey (Frederick Douglass) was born a slave in Talbot County, Maryland. He took the name Douglass after escaping from the South in 1838.
As a leader in the abolitionist movement, Douglass was famed for his eloquent yet incisive political writing. And, like his near-contemporary, Booker T. Washington, understood the central importance of education in improving the lives of African Americans, and was therefore an early proponent of desegregation.
A firm believer in equal rights for all, Douglass attended a meeting of the National Council of Women in Washington, D.C., in the hours before his death in February 1895.

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Wrong Impression By Teressa Y. Stroman I was dissappointed. I thought that I was purchasing an e-book and not a synopsis of the e-book. I have never read anything on Federick Douglas and was looking forward to gaining more knowledge on the subject and his great accomplishments. Yet, I was left with the same questions that I had before reading the e-book. I won't give up. I will continue to find more e-books on Federick Douglas, but this time I will ensure that I get what I pay for!!

By Dean Frederick Douglass was an important personality in the slave era, and in the debates over it's fate as an American institution in the time leading up to the Civil war. This article deals with the subject of Reconstruction, and is a remarkably lucid statement about what Reconstruction should have been. To be clear, this "e-book" is not in fact a book, but an article he wrote on the subject of Reconstruction, and how it should be approached. It should be of interest to anyone doing research or reading on that time period and subject. This version includes a number of photographs of Douglass taken during his life.
1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Love it By C. Ellis All I can say is wow! First I love the portraits of Douglass. He was so regal. A man of dignity. Then I began reading and what passion he had! When I was reading it, some of the elements he speaks of could be used for today. It is sad that his words didn't have the affect they should have had but it makes me proud to think of his strength and courage. I will seek out his biography to read more about the man.
